The YES 4 Youth Programme aims to provide unemployed young people in South Africa with a quality work experience on a 12-month fixed term contract. 

We recruit our YES 4 Youth candidates from local communities where we operate. The youth are placed according to their skills and interests as far as possible.  The aim is to provide them with a work experience through which they can grow and develop their skills in order to be more employable as well as the opportunity to be mentored by Komatsu employees for a year.

In 2025, Komatsu took in 50 YES students.  Every year about 25% of the students get absorbed into the workplace as permanent employees.
