September 21, 2023 -- Komatsu (President: Hiroyuki Ogawa) and Hitachi, Ltd. (President and CEO: Keiji Kojima, hereinafter referred to as "Hitachi") have licensed the technology, and Denyo Corporation (President: Takanori Yoshinaga, hereinafter referred to as "Denyo") has succeeded in commercializing a 250kW hydrogen co-firing generator.
This generator can generate power by mixing up to 50% hydrogen with fuel, which can reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions during power generation by up to 50% compared to using only diesel oil as fuel. As part of its efforts to achieve carbon neutrality, Komatsu has introduced the first unit of this generator at its Oyama Plant, aiming for full-scale operation by the end of September 2023.
Komatsu will continue to collaborate with partner companies and further promote initiatives to achieve carbon neutrality. Through the DANTOTSU Value (creation of customer value that creates a virtuous cycle of profit improvement and ESG problem solving) set forth in the medium-term management plan "DANTOTSU Value – Together, to "The Next" for sustainable growth", we will step into the next stage toward the field of the future. We aim to create new value in order to pass on a sustainable future to the next generation.
Hitachi and Denyo have been developing hydrogen co-firing generators through demonstrations in Fukushima Prefecture and Tomiya City, Miyagi Prefecture. With the delivery of this first unit, we will expand sales of hydrogen co-firing generators as a key product for building a hydrogen supply chain in the future, and contribute to the realization of carbon neutrality and a hydrogen society.
