The transition from petroleum-based lubricants to options that are more friendly to the environment has been inching forward, driven in part by regulations and in part by burgeoning interest in environmental practices. Since 2016, Komatsu's Surface Mining business has been actively exploring potential alternatives to petroleum-based lubricants that will work effectively with its equipment. Hybrid and electric equipment

For over 70 years, we’ve been innovating our product lines for core industries to break new ground with electrification and hybrid technologies. In that time, our products have helped customers move more than 100 billion tons of material with electric drive technologies. Today, there are more than 150 Komatsu surface wheel loaders worldwide across multiple jobsites using SR, hybrid electric drive technology.
Impact of operator training

Through our Komatsu Academy platform, we are committed to providing training virtually, in person or through a blended approach to help educate operators and other key staff on how best to use the equipment and technologies to increase efficiency and enhance sustainability by reducing fuel waste and emissions.
Smart technology’s role in sustainability

For existing fleets, we offer customers technology and training support solutions to help identify opportunities to reduce fuel waste, equipment hang time and much more. Our Smart Construction and Smart Quarry digital solutions help customers optimize the use of equipment to work more precisely and help operators move materials more efficiently.
