Precautions for long outages

When restarting a machine or equipment that has been shut down for a long period of time, or when restarting a machine or equipment after a long shutdown, please refer to this section.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.

Things to be done before a long shutdown

  • If there is a workpiece payout device or transfer device, payout the workpiece.
  • Wipe off coolant and clean chips in the equipment.
  • Wipe off coolant and dirt on the linear guide and ball screw, and spray with anti-rust spray.
  • Replace the backup battery for CNC memory. *Note
  • Replace the battery for the absolute pulse coder. *Note
  • Back up NC data (parameters, PMC parameters, offset data, NC program, etc.) in case of memory data loss.

*Note: Battery replacement must be performed with the power on.

  • Coolant is discharged from the slurry or coolant tank, and the coolant tank, clean the inside of coolant agitation motor, and coolant supply pump clean the impeller.
  • Remove coolant from the coolant piping and heat exchanger piping to prevent clogging.
  • Remove the reel bobbin and apply rust-preventive oil to the reel shaft reel bobbin mounting surface and the workpiece clamping section of the tooling unit.
  • Shut off the air supply to prevent dust and other debris from entering the spindle and reel shaft.
  • Shut off the main spindle cooling water supply, drain the water in the heat exchanger, and dry the inside of the cooling water piping with dry air.
  • Replace the UPS battery for memory backup, for the absolute bulk coder, and for the UPS battery.

*Note: Battery replacement must be performed with the power on.

What we would like you to implement at the time of restart

  • Check the quantity and deteriorated condition of the lubricating oil, hydraulic fluid, and coolant tanks, and refill or replace them before operation.
  • Turn on the power and check for any alarms, messages, or errors.
If there is an abnormal display, check the contents in the instruction manual and take action.
  • To ensure that each part is well lubricated, run the lubrication system manually or automatically before starting operation.
  • Before moving the axis, make sure that there are no interfering objects in the equipment before starting operation.
  • If chips have accumulated and adhered to the equipment, clean it before operation.
  • If a cylinder with a drop prevention device is attached, the single acting cylinder for drop prevention may stick, causing the cylinder to fall out of in-situ position.
In this case, use the pushbutton to move the cylinder to the home position.
  • Check the air curtain of the main spindle and multi-axis head for clogging and make sure that air is coming out of the curtain discharge area by placing your hand on it before operating it.
  • Turn the spindle by hand to see if there is any sticking inside the spindle.
If the spindle rotates smoothly, increase the spindle speed from low speed to high speed and run the machine after sufficient break-in time.
If the spindle is stuck, heavy, heats up, or does not rotate, please contact our sales or customer's support.
  • Please perform a thorough break-in operation.

  • If chips have accumulated and adhered to the equipment, clean it before operation.
  • To ensure that each part is well lubricated, turn on the hydraulic pressure and let it run for at least 30 minutes. If the oil viscosity is high (in winter), an alarm may occur.
  • Turn the wheel spindle lightly by hand to check for sticking inside the wheel spindle (sticking at the air curtain, sticking at the bearing, or clogged at the hydrostatic squeezing area).
  • Before programming (loading) to move each axis to the machine home, move each unit as far as possible with the handles.
  • When starting loading, move slowly with an override (10~20%).
  • Allow the wheel spindle to rotate for at least 30 minutes before operating the wheel.

  • While the machine is stopped for a long time, the air slides of the (Z)2 axis may adhere to each other, resulting in poor movement. Try operating the machine manually, and if the movement is poor, clean the air slides, push them up a little by hand, and then operate the machine.

  • Wipe off rust-preventive oil on the workpiece clamping section of the tooling unit and clean it.
  • Supply air and check if purge air is supplied from the spindle and reel shaft.
