Power on grade. Exceptional brake-retarding performance.
With a rated payload of 101.6 U.S. tons, the HD785-8 is ready to produce in your mining, quarry, and aggregate applications. The Komatsu SAA12V140E-7 engine provides 1,140 net horsepower for excellent speed-on-grade. Oil-cooled, multiple-disc brakes on the front and rear wheels offer excellent brake-retarding capability when descending grades.

33'2" turning radius due to the MacPherson-strut-type independent suspension
Wet disc brakes on all four wheels deliver 1,770 HP of retarder-absorption capacity
Control unnecessary fuel consumption. When the engine is idling for the set time — adjustable from five to 60 minutes — the auto idle shutdown function automatically stops and applies the parking brake.
Selectable operating modes
Your operator can choose between two operating modes: Economy mode to save fuel or Power mode for enhanced performance.
Variable Horsepower Control
The Variable Horsepower Control system is designed to deliver you high production with low fuel consumption. It automatically detects whether the machine is loaded or unloaded and selects the best horsepower setting.
Turning radius
The MacPherson-strut-type independent front suspension features an A-arm design for wider spacing and easy access to the engine bay. The turning angle is a tight turning radius of 33' 2." The smooth ride helps to reduce material spillage, too.
Wet multiple-disc brakes and retarder
Fully hydraulic-controlled wet multiple-disc brakes on all four wheels help promote reliable and stable brake performance. Large-capacity, continuously-oil-cooled, multiple-disc brakes also function as a responsive retarder for operator confidence at higher downhill speeds.
K-ATOMiCS transmission
Komatsu Advanced Transmission with Optimum Modulation Control System (K-ATOMiCS) helps avoid unnecessary fuel consumption, reduce material spillage and provide a smoother ride for operators by automatically selecting a gear position depending on grade, speed and acceleration.
Automatic Retard Speed Control
The Automatic Retard Speed Control (ARSC) allows your operator to set the desired downhill travel speed. The ARSC system automatically applies the brake retarder to maintain that setting, enabling the operator to stay focused on the haul road.
Komatsu Traction Control System
The Komatsu Traction Control System (KTCS) monitors the rear wheels for slippages and automatically applies the brakes independently to each wheel for enhanced traction. This function occurs automatically without operator input and without compromising steering performance.
All-around monitoring
KomVision provides your operator with a 360-degree view of the surrounding work area on a dedicated monitor located in the dash via a six-camera system.
Integrated Payload Meter
Enhance payloads, promote productivity and control the life cycle costs of your truck. The Integrated Payload Meter (PLM) manages the payload of each hauling cycle, analyzing the production volume and the working conditions of the machine.
Ground-level service center
Designed for quick preventative maintenance and servicing. A ground-level service center is located at the bottom of the hydraulic tank: Engine oil, transmission and brake cooling oil, brake control oil and hydraulic oil filling ports are accessible in one location.
Zero-harm features
Lockable battery and starter isolators are accessible from the ground level. A machine immobilization switch enables engine ignition yet disables steering and hoist operation while preventing parking brake release. An emergency engine stop switch shuts down the engine from the ground level.
The DISPATCH Fleet Management System (FMS) helps mines achieve enhanced load and haul cycle efficiency and productivity through its proprietary optimization algorithm. The DISPATCH FMS provides mines with increased potential for end-to-end monitoring of production and auxiliary equipment, improved compliance with planning objectives, shorter hang/queue times and more.
The MineCare Maintenance Management System combines the benefits of real-time remote equipment health monitoring with cloud computing technology and advanced analytics capabilities. The MineCare System promotes the advanced detection of issues before they occur, thus helping to reduce unplanned maintenance events, promoting increased uptime and utilization and reduced maintenance costs and equipment degradation.
The ProVision Guided Spotting System helps to optimize the loading cycle by presenting truck operators with precise directional guidance via intuitive visual cues when spotting at a loading unit. By helping the operators hit the spot the first time they reverse into position, potentially eliminating the need for a hanging bucket or flag, the Guided Spotting System promotes faster loading times for increased productivity.
