The harsh, unpredictable conditions of underground mining demand reliable machines that can adapt. Joy shearers are designed so you can depend on them to be not only consistently productive, but also versatile. Modular design makes Joy shearers easy to transport. With an array of seam ranges and arm power options to choose from, select the specs you need to do your job quickly and effectively.
Integrates cutting-edge automation
Designed to be maintained simply and easily
Productive and economical without sacrificing safety
Three high-tensile fabrications comprise the body of the Joy shearer, forming a slim main section with no under-frame. Eliminating the under-frame allows more material passage under the body, easier transport, quicker adaptation to different mining scenarios, efficient rebuilds, easier maintenance.
Rigorously tested gear design
Be confident your shearer will offer outstanding reliability. Ranging arm and haulage gear trains consist of robust spur gears incorporating decades of experience. State-of-the-art gear design software and meticulous load-testing help make the Joy shearer even more reliable.
Haulage sections built to exacting standards
Primary haulage gear case contained in a frame mounted to both sides of controller case. Inside the gear case are straight-cut spur gears manufactured to exacting standards. 7LS shearer can match tractive effort increase delivered by higher power-density motors.
Custom-designed drums
Experience the difference custom-designed drums can make for your operation. Using a three-axis digital lacing machine to manufacture custom-designed drums results in precise bit locations and angles. Final machining is accomplished with CNC turning centers to achieve precise fit.
Choose the best Cowles blade for your site
Equip your shearer with “T” style or “D” style Cowles blades. More compact “T” Cowles blades may perform better in drum loading by allowing more free-flowing material. Wider “D” Cowles blades are stronger, can take more abuse in harsh conditions.
Easy access controller case
The controller case, which forms the center section, contains the electric control system. Features include easy gob-side access to the electrical controller section and motors, quick access for routine maintenance, in a safer working environment.
Automated cutting sequences
Highly efficient cycle times, consistency and reduced operator exposure to dust and noise. Fully programmed automated cutting sequences, including gate end turnarounds. Includes optimal drum positioning with automation software that positions the drum at a height that maintains a pre-configured pitch angle to the pans.
Simple, reliable remote operation
Remotely operate the shearer with an HHX remote. Uses reliable two-way radio communication to control the shearer. Displays operational and diagnostic information on integrated LCD screen. Removable, large capacity battery pack allows long intervals between charges.
OptiDrive system
A transmission design that provides you with an adaptable, rugged and reliable solution for shearer traction systems. The medium voltage OptiDrive system integrates the variable speed drive with the motor to achieve outstanding speed and torque control for soft starts and stops and fast acceleration.
Faceboss
Optimize your operation with actionable insights. Operator assistance tools, automated sequences, advanced diagnostics and machine performance monitoring from the Faceboss Control System.
Advanced shearer automation
If you’re intent on increasing your productivity and reducing operator exposure to dust and noise, our latest shearer steering technology gives you access to fully automated cutting sequences, including gate end turnarounds.
If you’re intent on increasing your productivity and reducing operator exposure to dust and noise, our latest shearer steering technology gives you access to fully automated cutting sequences, including gate end turnarounds. You program an initial cutting profile and extraction height with a graphical offline planner, and the shearer automatically replicates the profile until conditions change. Your operator has the ability to override control of the roof drum to follow the preferred horizon, and this new profile can be used in the remainder of the cutting sequence automatically. This advanced level of automation enables you to pursue the most efficient cycle times with added consistency.
Faceboss Control System
Are you concerned that you’re not leveraging technology sufficiently in your longwall operation? The Faceboss RS20s system offers you a fully integrated, powerful roof support control system. It combines operator assistance tools, automated sequences, advanced diagnostics, machine performance monitoring and more to help you optimize your longwall mining. Data is integrated and shared between the shearer and the roof supports, resulting in consistent and efficient cycle times and minimizing the need for human intervention.
