Harshman Construction LLC, a multigenerational aggregate producer, operates 17 locations supplying a wide range of materials including base rock, concrete stone and asphalt stone. Managing a fleet of over 175 machines — many of them Komatsu — requires a focus on performance and longevity. To extend equipment life while controlling costs, the company turned to Komatsu Reman components to rebuild aging wheel loaders.

Their operation depends heavily on high-output machinery, including Komatsu WA600 wheel loaders, many of which had logged significant hours. Replacing these machines outright would be a major financial burden. The company needed a cost-effective, reliable alternative to maintain production without compromising quality or uptime.

In collaboration with their Komatsu distributor, Harshman Construction rebuilt its high-hour WA600 wheel loaders using Komatsu Reman components. Encouraged by the results, the team later rebuilt a WA500 loader in-house. Key components like the engine, transmission and pumps were replaced, while durable parts like the frame, pins and bushings were retained. The Reman components came with a one-year, unlimited-hour warranty and quality assurance on major parts for up to 10,000 hours.

The rebuilt loaders delivered like-new performance at a fraction of the cost of new equipment. Harshman Construction extended the lifespan of its machines, reduced capital expenditures and freed up resources to invest in business growth. The company was especially impressed by the reliability, warranty coverage and sustainability benefits of using fewer raw materials in the remanufacturing process.

The frame of the machine was really good, and the pins and bushings were still in excellent condition, even at 18,000 hours. That, along with the cost savings of using Komatsu Reman components and the warranty and assurance, made the decision to rebuild an easy one. Basically, we’re getting a like-new machine that we can run for several thousand hours. The savings allow us to invest more resources into growing our business.
