Komatsu expands the presence of crawler tractors in Brazilian mining

Developed through a collaborative effort between the engineering teams of Komatsu Japan and Komatsu Brazil, the D475A-8R was born from actively listening to the demands of the local market.

December 8, 2025 -- Komatsu is expanding the presence of its crawler tractors in Brazilian mining, driven by the consistent performance of the D475A-8R model, and has been demonstrating proven gains in productivity and cost per hour in the country's main mines.

The equipment has established itself as one of the most reliable solutions for large-scale operations, working on iron and bauxite mining projects.

Developed through collaborative work between the engineering teams of Komatsu Japan and Komatsu Brazil, and a comprehensive Voice of Customer (VOC) process – a global initiative that collects and analyzes customer suggestions – the D475A-8R was born from actively listening to the demands of the local market.

In 2019, Komatsu technicians in Japan visited Brazilian mines to understand the needs of operators and managers, resulting in a series of improvements in forward and reverse power, fuel consumption, comfort, cooling system, and durability—advancements that reinforce the brand's commitment to the real-world operation of its customers.

The model delivers up to a 36% reduction in cost per hour (CPH) and productivity gains of approximately 12% compared to previous versions available on the market. The result is a high-performance piece of equipment, designed to operate continuously and safely in demanding operational environments.

Among the distinguishing features of the D475A-8R is its availability for remote operation, which allows the tractor to be controlled remotely – even from another country – with the support of high-definition cameras.

In addition to enhancing safety, the technology enables new possibilities for inclusion and operational continuity, allowing operators to work outside the risk area without loss of efficiency.
