January 12, 2026 -- Komatsu – a manufacturer of equipment for the mining, construction, and forestry sectors – is strengthening its partnership with Anglo American by expanding to more than 110 pieces of equipment expected to be operational by 2026 in the infrastructure, loading, and transportation areas of the Minas-Rio project. This is Komatsu's largest concentrated equipment operation at a single mine on Brazilian soil.
Komatsu's highlights in the Minas-Rio System this year include remote operation for the D375Ai-8R model tractors with IMC (Automatic Blade Control), which will operate in the new tailings filtration plant and offer greater safety and comfort to operators, as well as the implementation of the new GD955-7M0 model motor grader with a blade capacity of between 18ft and 20ft.
The solutions also promote greater operational efficiency and a positive environmental impact, such as the 830E Diesel Electric truck with pre-disposition for autonomous operation and an average reduction in fuel consumption of over 10%, when compared to other models offered on the market, in addition to the application of the truck's sound attenuation system, fully focused on noise reduction, which contributes to the health and well-being of the operators.
Additionally, in 2026, Komatsu will implement a Training Center within Anglo American's operations, focused on the high-level training of professionals who will operate the new equipment, aiming for the best performance of the machines and the technologies associated with them.
"Komatsu and Anglo American already have a global alliance, and this new project raises the level of collaboration, focusing on safety, innovation, sustainable and long-term projects, which are strong commitments and existing pillars between the two companies." "This year, we will have more than 110 pieces of equipment operating at the Minas-Rio project, with 16 of them dedicated to the new filtration plant", says Leonardo Carmo, general commercial manager of Surface and Underground Mining at Komatsu.
"We are constantly seeking cutting-edge technologies to make our operations increasingly safer, more efficient, and more sustainable." "These innovations are directly connected to our long-term strategy, focused on reducing emissions, operating responsibly and generating value", emphasizes Aurélio Garcia, Executive Manager of Mine Operations at Anglo American.
In Brazil, Anglo American also already uses the following Komatsu solutions: DISPATCH, a dispatch system that optimizes traffic and truck usage in mining operations; ProVision, machine navigation with technology that uses high-precision GPS to help operators identify excavation areas and avoid errors, ensuring adherence to planning; and MineCare, a predictive solution, in real time through telemetry, that monitors machine health using sensors, preventing failures and optimizing productivity.
