In addition, our distributor network represents Komatsu Forest in key forestry markets around the world.

Japan history
  • 1921 – Komatsu was founded in Japan.
  • 1938 – The Awazu Plant was established.
  • 1943 – The Model 1 motor grader was produced.
  • 1950s – The Osaka Plant was opened, and production of motor graders, forklifts, dump trucks, and wheel loaders began.
  • 1960s – The Oyama Plant was opened, and production of wheel loaders commenced.
  • 1966 – Komatsu opened its first office in India.
  • 1970s – Komatsu Ltd. expanded internationally, establishing operations in countries including the United States, Singapore, Brazil, and Australia.
  • 1970 – The 50,000th D50 bulldozer was exported.
  • 1980s – Komatsu Ltd. expanded further, establishing operations in countries including Indonesia and the United Kingdom, as well as subsidiaries in the United States and Germany.
  • 1990s – Komatsu continued its global expansion by establishing subsidiaries worldwide and developed the world's largest dump truck.
Sweden history
  • 1961 – Umeå Mekaniska was founded.
  • 1976 – The company was acquired by Volvo BM.
  • 1986 – The company was acquired by Valmet.
  • 1997 – Following the acquisition by Partek, the company became Partek Forest.
  • 2004 – Komatsu entered the forestry industry with the establishment of Komatsu Forest AB.

Today, Komatsu employs more than 60,000 people worldwide, with approximately 1,650 employees working within Komatsu Forest. The headquarters of Komatsu Forest is located in Umeå, Sweden. Umeå is also home to one of the company's manufacturing facilities, where wheeled forestry machines and harvester heads are produced.
Brazil history
  • 2004 – Following Komatsu's acquisition of Partek, the company became Komatsu Forest.
  • 2008 – Komatsu launched the world's first Autonomous Haulage System (AHS).
  • 2012 – Komatsu acquired Log Max.
  • 2015 – Komatsu entered the Smart Construction market.
  • 2017 – Komatsu acquired Joy Global.
  • 2018 – Komatsu acquired Quadco, Southstar, and Oryx Simulations.
  • 2019 – Komatsu acquired the U.S.-based forestry equipment manufacturer TimberPro.
  • 2019 – Komatsu launched its first forestry planter.
  • 2022 – The D155 forestry tractor was added to the product portfolio.
  • 2022 – Komatsu acquired Bracke Forest.
  • 2023 – Introduction of the PC210 P12b Planter.
  • 2023 – Presentation of the PC240 P22 Bracke dual-head planter prototype.
  • 2024 – Launch of Full Tree harvesting operations with the TimberPro 775D Feller Buncher.
