The Horton fan clutch is a variable-speed, closed-loop, fluid-filled drive that helps efficiently control the cooling fan from the engine’s RPM. The variable-speed fan drive sends engine data directly from the ECM to read real-time data and adjust the fan speed only as needed. Completely sealed and air cooled to eliminate the need for additional hoses or oil, this clutch can help reduce contamination caused by engine oil leaks. The fan is composed of a special thermoset composite material, the highest strength-to-weight ratio among all materials currently used in fans.
* Fuel savings and other benefits are dependent upon mine profile and certain environmental factors, including (but not limited to) idle time, ambient temperature, altitude, coasting time, haul cycle, truck-limited vs. shovel-limited operations, average engine load factor (% time at full load), engine age and individual operator. Certain benefit results are based solely from bench-testing by Horton. Komatsu does not guarantee that you will see the same results.
Adjust your need for speed
Help increase operating efficiency and reduce fuel consumption with a variable-speed fan drive that sends engine data directly from the ECM to read real-time data and adjust the fan speed only as needed. Lower fan speed can also help reduce operating noise.
Get control with precise performance
This clutch helps maintain an optimal operating temperature by generating precise fan speed control with its closed-loop viscous design, which means that the input/output is moved by fluid rather than mechanical interaction.
Focus on sustainability and protection
Get the protection you need with a closed system that is completely sealed to help prevent engine oil leaks, or dust and debris ingression. With no need for hydraulic oil lines for cooling or operation, you can also help reduce the risk of contaminating oil leaks.
Installation and maintenance made simple
The simple design is belt-driven to help make it easier to install, while fewer components (no solenoid valve or additional hoses) help reduce the possibility of component failure. To help increase life and load capacity, this drive features roller bearings instead of ball bearings.
Overcome overcooling
The variable-speed drive also helps your engine prevail through non-optimal thermal cycles and maintain proper engine temperature during the difficult winter months, lower temperatures, and colder climates.
