Supporting vulnerable women and girls across New Zealand became a deeply personal mission for Komatsu New Zealand team member Candice Stacey through the company’s Live Your Dream (LYD) program.
Based in Hamilton, Candice chose to support Good Shepherd NZ, an organisation dedicated to helping vulnerable women and girls within local communities.
Through the initiative, Candice directed a $10,000 donation towards the organisation, while also encouraging fellow employees to get involved by setting up donation boxes across the business for essential goods and supplies.
“The outcome was absolutely amazing,” Candice said.
“It’s a great cause, and I wanted to do more than just make a donation. Seeing everyone get behind it and contribute was really special.”
Candice said her connection to the cause stemmed from personal experiences she had witnessed growing up in South Africa.
“I knew a couple of vulnerable women back home who needed help, so now I’m trying to help the women and children of New Zealand,” she said.
As part of the experience, representatives from Good Shepherd NZ visited the Komatsu team to share more about the organisation’s history and the important work it does supporting women and families in need.
“The most humbling experience was hearing their stories and learning more about the impact they’re making,” Candice said.
“They were sincerely happy and appreciative of the support, and they passed on their thanks to the Komatsu team.”
The Live Your Dream program gives Komatsu employees the opportunity to support causes that are meaningful to them and make a positive impact within their communities.
For Candice, the experience reinforced the value of coming together to support others.
“It was incredible to see how something that started as one idea turned into so many people wanting to help,” she said.
