Komatsu is enhancing its safety measures in underground mining by integrating third-party proximity detection systems (PDS) across its equipment. This technology aims to reduce operator hazards by providing an engineered control to improve situational awareness and communication. Following a 2021 incident in a NSW coal mine, regulators have recommended PDS technology as a standard safety feature. Komatsu's commitment includes offering PDS as a default on all new and rebuilt machines, promoting safer work practices and behaviour modification among operators.
