Electric

Electric power is one of the technologies being developed to support lower-emission worksites. Komatsu is actively researching and introducing battery-electric construction equipment in select markets as part of its broader power solutions strategy.

Electric machines

Electric machines use onboard batteries to power electric motors that drive the machine’s systems, producing zero exhaust emissions during operation while delivering smooth, responsive performance.

Komatsu has already introduced several electric excavator models globally, including electric micro, mini and medium-class machines. These machines are currently operating in markets such as Japan and Europe as part of ongoing evaluation and market development.

Electric construction equipment is not currently available in New Zealand.

Electrification in mining

Electrification is already used across large-scale mining operations, where equipment can draw power from site electrical infrastructure.

These systems allow high-power machines to operate using electric drive technology, improving energy efficiency while supporting the high productivity required in mining environments. Electrified equipment has been used in mining for decades and continues to play an important role in large-scale operations.
