The OEM hoist and drag gear cases on the Marion 8200 are fabricated from plate steel reinforced by thin section stiffener plates, fillet welded to the main case walls. With the natural flexing of the rotating frame, this gear case can also flex and cause pinion/gear misalignment that may compromise the life of the gearing and result in reduced reliability and availability. Flexing may also result in fatigue and cracking of stiffener plates, as well as oils leaks around the pinion bearings and case lip parting faces.
