PT Komatsu Undercarriage
Indonesia (KUI) is the first component plant
that the Komatsu Group established outside Japan.
The aim is to build the foundation for an undercarriage
parts supply structure in markets worldwide where
Komatsu equipment is in operation. Used in crawler-type
construction equipment, undercarriage parts are
one of the components most subjected to wear
and tear and that require a stable supply to
avoid machine downtime. The largest repair costs
also mount up for these parts—a key consideration
for customers with a pressing need to reduce
operational costs.
Consequently, KUI’s mission is not only component production and ensuring
a stable supply of genuine Komatsu undercarriage parts to customers but also
providing customers with solutions by offering satisfying products and services.
Providing Products That Meet Customer Needs
KUI launched production in April 2001 and achieved track link assembly sales
totaling 10,000 units in July 2004. In October 2006, KUI commenced production
of track link assemblies for D375A bulldozers in order to quickly supply spare
parts for machines working in Indonesian coal mines around the clock without
downtime. Moreover, KUI not only produces and supplies standard undercarriage
parts but also develops and manufactures products optimized to customers’ specific
job sites and machine usage. For example, KUI developed abrasion-resistant and
shock-proof reinforced links for D155A bulldozers (originally supplied as replacement
parts but are now equipped in D155A bulldozers as standard parts) for use on
sandy sites in such areas as the Middle East, where abrasion is rapid. In this
way, KUI is expanding its reach for the development and production of undercarriage
products for customers worldwide.
Hosting Global Undercarriage Conference
In order to respond to customers’ demands around the world, Komatsu has
further expanded facilities at KUI since 2004 to bolster its production capacity
by 1.5 times for track link assemblies and three times for rollers. This reinforcement
has resulted in a jump in track link assembly shipments from 10,000 to 20,000
units in just 18 months.
Upon completion of facility expansion in November 2006 and as an opportunity
to further augment the global supply structure, Komatsu held a global conference
regarding undercarriages in Jakarta, Indonesia, and introduced KUI’s products
and supply structure to sales representatives from the Komatsu Group’s
sales subsidiaries worldwide. While ensuring a reliable production structure,
quality control and the development of new products at KUI, the conference provided
a platform for a lively discussion on strengthening customer support and offering
products that satisfy customers. In this respect, the entire Komatsu Group is
determined to make continuous concerted efforts to boost customer satisfaction. |
