PT Komatsu Undercarriage Indonesia (KUI), which has been manufacturing and selling undercarriages for construction and mining equipment since 2001, opened a new plant in Indonesia in accordance with expanded business scale. An opening ceremony was held on December 6, 2004, kicking off operations for what is anticipated to be a booming business for the plant, which is the first full-scale manufacturing facility worldwide specializing in undercarriages for the Komatsu Group.

New Building Design Built Around the “Genuine Komatsu Plant” Concept

Komatsu’s corporate color, “Gloria Blue,” has been extensively used on the exterior of the plant. The Komatsu logo featured on the rooftop of the office building aptly conveys the message that the new facility is a “genuine Komatsu plant” that manufactures genuine Komatsu undercarriages.

Providing Products that Satisfy Customers

1. Quality First
To provide products that ensure customer satisfaction, KUI makes sure no defective products will be shipped out. This is done by enforcing vigorous incoming inspections for every component as well as inspections for processing, assembly and pre-shipment of products.

KUI carries out Quality Control Circle activities and continues to improve production and inspection levels, while also establishing call centers to address inquiries from customers regarding quality and other issues.

2. Expanding Product Lineup and Boosting Assembly Capabilities
In response to increased global demand for construction and mining equipment and rapidly rising demand for KUI products, the new plant is installed with the latest facilities to significantly increase production capacity.

3. Grasping Market Needs
KUI also set up a marketing department to grasp market needs and provide customers with optimal products. In cooperation with local subsidiaries, distributors and Komatsu Ltd.’s Undercarriage Business Division, KUI will strive to understand market trends and meet customer demands, such as by implementing a variety of training and providing product-related materials.

KUI has employed a building design that places a priority on visiting customers. For example, at the front entrance to the building is a main conference room for welcoming customers with a sense of warm hospitality. KUI aims to facilitate communication with customers, thereby manufacturing high-quality products that fully incorporate their needs. The layout is meant to inspire employees to always focus on the customer first.

KUI will continue to address increased production and bolster added value, as well as promote Komatsu’s “Spirit of Manufacturers,” to pursue customer benefits and provide products that satisfy customers. KUI is looking forward to welcoming customers at the new plant.
