Komatsu constantly endeavors to maximize the effectiveness of its machines in the field and produce an environment in which customers can carry out operations without worry. To achieve this mission, Komatsu provides "Komatsu Machine Total Clinic," a new service menu that combines Komatsu's service expertise into one package.
In addition to enhancing such previously available services as Preventive maintenance (Pm) Clinic and Undercarriage Inspection, this new service also includes Fuel, Oil, Water, Air (FOWA) Diagnosis, which employs such state-of-the-art technologies as oil quality analysis.
Komatsu Machine Total Clinic features a full-machine maintenance service covering power lines, undercarriage, work equipment and the exterior, thus contributing to lower costs through the prevention of machine breakdown and reduction in downtime.

Komatsu’s FOWA Activities
The four fundamental elements of fuel, oil, water and air are highly effective in raising performance of machines for longer life. To ensure proper maintenance, Komatsu provides devices that rely on the latest measuring technologies to assess the state of the fuel, oil and coolant. The use of these devices prevents unexpected trouble with main components and reduces customers' running costs.
For example, when using fuel with high sulfur content, the sulfur ignites and converts to sulfur dioxide, which dissolves into and rapidly oxidizes the oil. If you keep using the engine under such a condition, the engine metals proceed to corrode, resulting in a shortened engine life. Consequently, the use of fuel with high sulfur content makes it necessary to conduct such proper maintenance as more frequent oil changes.

*1 TBN: Total Base Number
TBN measures the volume of alkaline additives present in the oil, which reduces oxidation.
*2 TAN: Total Acid Number
Oxidation of oil shortens the life of engines. TAN measures this oxidation level.
