Komatsu Ltd. (President & CEO: Kunio Noji) (hereinafter "Komatsu") has led the Japanese construction equipment manufacturing industry by establishing its "Declaration of Biodiversity" in March 2011, promoting group-wide conservation efforts for biodiversity around the world.
Komatsu's ecosystem research and conservation efforts under the leadership of the Test Engineering Center at Notsu (Usuki-shi, Oita), Development Division, were introduced at the 5th International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) World Conservation Congress held in Jeju, Korea from September 6 through 15, 2012.
The recognition of our efforts began when we submitted our case study for the "Biodiversity and ecosystem services: scaling up business solutions" solicited by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development. Our efforts received a high mark and were adopted for public disclosure.
A total of 25 cases were introduced at the 5th IUCN World Conservation Congress, two of which were from Japanese companies, including Komatsu.
We at Komatsu are making contributions to creating an affluent society which coexists with nature not only through our group-wide efforts, but also by promoting communications with our supply-chain partners and local communities.
