KOMATSU ANNOUNCES CONSOLIDATED INTERIM RESULTS FOR FISCAL 2002 AND OUTLOOK FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR

The accompanying financial information is prepared in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles in the United States of America.

Komatsu Ltd. posted consolidated net sales of ¥505.4 billion (US$4,248 million, at US$1=¥119) for the interim period of fiscal 2002 ending March 31, 2002, down 8.8% from the corresponding period last year. Operating loss for the period registered ¥5.3 billion (US$45 million). Net loss for the period amounted to ¥42.6 billion (US$359 million).
