Komatsu's Environmental and Social Activities Enhancing Quality of Life

Topics Participation in the Plenary Session of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development

Komatsu has participated in WBCSD (World Business Council for Sustainable Development) activities since FY2010. The major purpose of the WBCSD (established 1995) is for CEO class executives from the approximately 200 companies across the world to proactively advance environmental policies to create an international free competitive market. Currently, Japan has 20 member companies and the WBCSD Secretariat plans to increase the number of member companies in the future. Komatsu participated in the plenary session held in Montreux, Switzerland in April 2015 and is thinking and acting on ways to realize a sustainable society.

As a long-term vision, WBCSD is aiming for “a world where 9 billion people can live well, within the planet’s resources” by 2050, and in the short-term LCTPI (Low Carbon Technology Partnership Initiative) was started in 2015 and is in progress.

WBCSD is also in favor of the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) for 2030 set by the United Nations in the fall of 2015, and plans to act on those as well.
